Bored of the pub and can’t face another cocktail? Don’t think you can take another deathly dull dinner date? Why not shake things up by making fitness your next social event?
Socialising has been getting a spruce up over the past couple of years as more and more of us choose to swap a pint and some Pringles for getting sweaty together.
We’re talking about the blending of socialising and fitness; meeting up with our mates to get a great workout. From those of us attending yoga classes with our favourite ladies, to speedy sorts signing up for running crews or meeting up for Parkrun every Saturday, burning calories is swiftly becoming the new social event du jour.
Splashing & shavasana
A whole raft of new clubs, crazes and workshops have been springing up to cater for the growing number of us who want to feel the burn and enjoy spending time with our friends.
A fantastic way to streamline nurturing your social life and your body, this combination has spawned yoga workshops which include healthy sit-down meals, fitness classes at major nightlife venues (including non-alcoholic cocktail bars!) and weekly “urban triathlons” (HIIT, running & yoga) you and your friends can all sign up for.
And that’s just for starters! Keep your eyes peeled for a whole raft of sporty social activities coming to a gym, pool or fitness centre near you.
Not sold on the idea? Aside from a fitness-boosting time saver, working out with friends has been shown time and time again to improve your motivation, helping you to keep going for longer, work hard and get more out of your workout. Who can say no to that? And we’re willing to bet that there will be more than a few laughs along the way!
