Why Regular Dental Check Ups are Really Important

After a warm welcome by Dr Monica Amin’s team, you will be accompanied into the surgery. Together you can talk about your previous dental history and get to know one another at your first dental appointment. This is an excellent opportunity for you to share your concerns or to ask any questions. The more information you provide, the more tailored our dental service can be.

A detailed dental inspection will take place whereby Dr Amin will examine your mouth, checking the soft tissue and your teeth and gums for any problems. This examination includes a check for early signs of oral cancer. Thereafter an assessment of the gum health and teeth is completed by visual inspection after which X-rays and photographs of your teeth may be taken, dependent upon your agreement, as these can help to detect any hidden tooth decay.

Once your examination is complete, Dr Amin will discuss a suitable dental treatment plan and will offer advice as deemed necessary based upon the findings of your examination. We can also now use our new state of the art I-Tero machine for pre-visualisation and online planning for the best treatment options for your dental needs. For instance, if it is deemed that you are at high risk of decay then a detailed diet analysis may be requested to help target what components of the diet may need to be minimised in order to decrease the risk and hence prevent the formation of cavities at future visits.

The most common treatment required by most patients is a dental hygienist cleaning session. Many hygienists will pay special attention to plaque and tartar. This is because plaque and tartar can build up in a very short time if good oral hygiene is not practiced between visits. For instance we highly recommend interdental brushing as part of your regular brushing routine. Food, beverages and tobacco can stain teeth and the result of debris and bacteria which can cause plaque build-up can also potentially cause tooth sensitivity. If not removed, soft plaque can harden on the teeth and irritate the gum tissue. If not treated, plaque can lead to gum disease from which the consequences could be the loss of teeth. There’s also the risk of decay which can lead to fillings. There are many filling treatments available depending on the cavity size and what’s needed.

By making sure you have regular visits to your dentists in Pimlico, you can receive advice on the best things to do and be reassured that your mouth is in the best possible condition. We offer dental care in Belgravia, London and our dental care check up also allows any problems to be detected and treated before they cause any permanent damage to your teeth and mouth, or result in decaying teeth and possible need for root canal treatment. Dental health can also affect your general health and result in conditions such as Bruxism.

Regular dental appointments are important but we also realise how cosmetic dentistry and associated services can help people improve their confidence and feel better about themselves. Our smile makeovers are very popular and along with check-ups and “mouth maintenance”, we also provide cosmetic services including Botox and dermal filler treatments to improve your facial appearance and give a youthful look, to compliment your new smile.
