What are Dental Implants?

Implants are effectively posts that act as supports for replacement teeth. They fit into the jawbone and provide a foundation for fixed or removable teeth.

The Dental implant procedures we offer in Victoria and Belgravia, offer you a permanent solution for your missing teeth. If a tooth is missing, or needs extracting, there are several ways to fill the gap that is left. In some cases it is important to try to replace any missing teeth in order to balance the way your jaw bites and if you have several missing teeth, the remaining teeth are under more pressure, which can then lead to broken fillings or even jaw problems.

If you don’t replace missing teeth then the teeth either side of the gap can begin to drift. Opposing teeth can also drift causing problems with your bite.

How much do dental implants cost?

Tooth Implants can vary in cost. Often the level of experience and skill of the Implantologist may be a component in the cost of the implant.

What Are They Made Of?

Implants are be made from medical grade Titanium which is the material of choice with regards to bio-compatibility with the body. It is extremely important that the body does not reject the implant as it will serve as a potential lifelong replacement for the tooth.

what is incredible about titanium is that the oxide layer on the surface is totally accepted by the body and undergoes a process known as osseo-integration.

How long do dental implants last?

Dental implants can often last a lifetime, if they are well placed and looked after. Even though dental implants are not natural teeth we still need to be cared for. The same bacteria that attack natural teeth can also attack your gums around a dental implant causing similar problems to natural teeth.

If you look after your implants, your implants will look after you.

What is the dental implant procedure?

The whole process can vary in time depending on how many implants you have and how many operations you would need to have them fitted. Should you have teeth being removed then the dentist could fit the implant straight into your tooth socket and then fit the false tooth, which is an immediate implant. Normally the false teeth are fitted around 3 months after the implants but this will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

The process involves a detailed consultation at our facility in Belgravia, near Victoria after which a thorough treatment plan is formulated. This will entail exactly what procedures are required as part of the implant placement and restoration process.

The initial phase will be placement of the implant after which Osseointegration, embedding of the implant into the bone, occurs. After this process is complete the Implantologist will uncover the implant screw with a minor procedure and attach a connector piece which will allow the implant to retain the crown or bridge.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Modern technology allows you to have implants which removes the need for removable plastic teeth or damaging adjacent healthy teeth. A variety of components can then be fitted which provide long-term support for crowns, bridges or fixed dentures.

Implants also help preserve natural tooth tissue and reduces bone resorption and deterioration. They are longer lasting than other teeth restoration procedures. For more on the benefits of dental implants see our FAQ page.
